It has a long and linear layout, paired with rustic selections and a palette that defies traditional hues, resulting in a unique blend of contemporary and old-world charm. From the rubble-finished limestone to the carefully chosen furnishings, the house unites the beauty of natural materials, timeworn antiques, and modern furnishings while remaining warm, elevated, and, most importantly, liveable.

This custom-built cottage is nestled on the shores of Ontarior’s Kawartha Lakes district. The AWD team leaned on the surrounding landscape for inspiration across the home, inviting warm neutrals, organic textiles, and natural materials. They also used custom millwork, and functional design solutions like custom millwork and integrated storage combined with strategic floorplans to make this cottage functional, welcoming, and especially beautiful. The final touches included curated furniture and hand-selected decor to bring in character and soul every home needs.
Redstone Lake boasts an idyllic, natural escape for any visitor, so when it came to building a log cabin amongst the forested shoreline, the team was determined to enhance the landscape rather than take away from it. This custom-built log cabin embodies craftsmanship and impressive attention to detail, with architectural intricacies in the structure itself as well as layered materials like tongue-and-groove ceilings and natural stone. Its intentional layout gives rooms a double-sided view of the lake, treescape, and plenty of natural light, while the furnishings, color palette, and textures bring the outside in. Here, an approach of refined simplicity allows for the architecture and natural landscape to truly shine.

A house is not a home without an element of functionality. For this red-brick Edwardian, thoughtful renovations were introduced to update the aesthetic, function, and flow while still holding onto the character and charm that makes this space unique. Careful consideration went into the mouldings, ceilings, and embellishments to honour the home’s original period. While cooler-toned millwork, marble, and wall treatments were layered with furnishings and textural fabrics to bring a contemporary tone to the overall design. Today, this home honours the past while nodding to today.
